Acoustic Guitar Amps? Depends on the sound you want. Be aware and make the right decision!

There are many approaches to choosing an acoustic guitar amps. Usually there are two main points of view from acoustic guitar players.

1. More volume with no change in the guitar sound or a transparent acoustic sound.

2. More volume and tone shaping to fit the sound of the acoustic guitar into a different or variety of different genres of music.

Of course, price, size and weight are huge considerations in both these schools of thought.

One major point to bear in mind and recognize is that an acoustic guitar amp is different from an electric guitar amp.

An acoustic is conceived and designed especially for the sonic makeup of the acoustic guitar to compliment it's natural sound.

Some will not go for anything other than playing through a microphone that is mixed through a sound system.

Other acoustic players may want to go for a totally different sound and create or invent their own sound by adding chorus, reverb, etc.

Choosing an acoustic amp can be a daunting task. There are so many to choose from.

Marshall Acoustic Amp

Some are very simple with only a Hi Z input and a volume and tone knob.

Others have several inputs, both Hi Z and Low Z, or unbalanzed and balanced inputs.

They may also have a multi-band EQ, channnel and master volume, effects and amp modeling and storage for presets. Roland Acoustic Amp

There are tube acoustic amps and solid state amps.

From my experience, tube amps give a warmer sound because they add an a bit of analog color to the sound.

Solid state amps are usually much cleaner sounding and may need enough sound shaping capabilities to shape the sound to your taste.

Another key to choosing an acoustic guitar amp is to get one that fits your venue.

Make sure the amp is not over or under powered.

If 25 watts works for your gigs, why spend the money for a 100 watt amp.

So go to your music store of choice, have a budget in mind, and play as many amps as you can.

Take your acoustic guitar with you just to make sure it sounds the way you want it to before you buy!!!
